Chapter 19

“I’ll try and wrap up editing so I can leave early on Thursday,” Haiden said as he stirred his Bloody Mary and Cash grinned as he leaned forward and rested his elbows on the table. They were enjoying cocktails and a relaxed breakfast on The Penthouse’s patio. Cash was wearing one of the hotel’s robes and Haiden reclined elegantly in the suit he was born in.

“Esmerelda doesn’t know what to do with herself, she’s complaining about all the long weekends off,” he said and Haiden snorted.

“I think she knows we’re up to something,” he murmured and Cash winced.

“I think so too. She’s used to us having all sorts of guests but they don’t usually visit every other weekend and sleep in my wing,” he said and Haiden beamed as he leaned and kissed Cash’s cheek.

“Because I’m special,” he replied and Cash chuckled as he reached for his coffee.

“She’s been with us since Natalie was a toddler. I trust her to respect my privacy,” he said then sighed. “You know I want to tell everyone about us, right?” He asked and Haiden waved it off as he nodded.

“I get it. You have to do what’s best for your family and your business,” he said and Cash frowned.

“I don’t like that it sounds like they matter more than you. I think we need a little more time before I turn everything upside down. Once I do that, it’s kind of like the point of no return,” he explained.

“Once you’re out, you’re out,” Haiden said and Cash shook his head.

“No, I meant for us. I’m not going to introduce you to my brother and Natalie until we’re ready. That’s going to make everything so much more complicated and I want us to have time to figure things out,” he said and Haiden hummed thoughtfully as he sipped.

“It has been nice, everything’s so quiet and peaceful up at the Little Farm,” he agreed and Cash pointed.

“We’d lose that. I don’t know how Natalie will take it. She might think you’re cool or rad or whatever. Or, she might think you’re taking me away from her. She’s always been the center of my universe,” he said and Haiden blinked at him for a moment then laughed.

“I’m not worried about Natalie,” he said then cleared his throat and became serious. “Beau, on the other hand…” He gave Cash a pointed look and his appetite was gone.

“I have no idea how that’s going to go. Telling him is the thing that scares me the most, right now,” he admitted and Haiden groaned sympathetically as he reached for Cash’s hand.

“He sounds like he loves you and would do anything for you,” he said and Cash’s cheeks puffed out as he exhaled.

“He does and he’s been there for me through everything. He held us together and made me finish college after my parents died, helped me build my own home and business and I wouldn’t have survived Gretchen’s death without him. At times, he’s been as much of a parent for Natalie as I have.
